FAQ

  • How do we get started?

We begin by signing a service agreement that outlines our partnership, ensures confidentiality, and gives me permission to communicate with the school and district on your behalf.

  • Where do I begin to explain what's going on?

We’ll schedule a virtual (Zoom) intake discussion to hear your specific concerns, understand your child's unique needs, and learn where there might be an issue with the IEP as written or implemented.

  • Do you need other information?

It varies depending on the issues. I will always ask for a copy of the current IEP or 504 plan, the most recent progress reports, and report cards.

Other necessary documents could include the last two triennial school evaluations, any independent education evalutions, and written communications between you and the school.

  • What's your approach? How do you set a strategy?

My philosophy is that parents are their child’s best advocate. My role is to guide you through the confusing language of special education and the emotions that surface when conflict with the special education system arises.

After reviewing the documents and determining how the school sees, supports, and understands your child, we’ll meet to discuss my findings. Together, we’ll decide on the best approach for your family and develop our next steps.

  • My child has a 504 plan. Can you help?

Yes, I work with 504 plans as well as IEPs.

504 plans provide accommodations to students to remove barriers to their learning.

A common issue with 504 plans is the failure by all of a child’s teachers to deliver on accommodations set in the plan.

  • Can you just handle everything for me?

I understand completely. When you're exhausted from endless meetings and frustrating communication, handing over the process sounds great. While I can't replace your invaluable role as your child's primary advocate, I can:

    - Take on the majority of documentation and communication tasks

    - Reduce the emotional burden you're carrying

    - Provide clarity and direction when everything feels overwhelming

    - Create space for you to be present and effective without burnout
